AFROSAI-E Working Group on Information Systems Audit and Management

At the 2018 AFROSAI-E Governing Board meeting, members held in-depth discussions on the theme: SAIs in the Digital Age. They agreed that SAIs are faced with significant information security and other challenges and that this is a focus area that requires urgent attention. As a result, they decided to create a regional working group to share experiences on information systems opportunities and find solutions the challenges SAIs experience.

The Working Group on Information System Audit and Management (WGISAM) held their first meeting from 27 to 30 May 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. Among the key issues discussed were:

  • Information security challenges facing SAIs in Africa
  • Successes and challenges in SAIs’ digital transformation
  • The agenda, successes and challenges of Smart Africa
  • Information security
  • Incident management    
  • Cybersecurity
  • Potential areas of collaboration among SAIs and partners

David Gichana, the Deputy Auditor General from SAI Kenya opened the meeting. The Working Group agreed to further explore areas of Cybersecurity, Information Systems Audit and Emerging Technologies. Members of the Working Group have committed to developing workplans and projects around these areas.
