We welcome the new Auditor General of Kenya

We are delighted to welcome Ms. Nancy Gathungu as the new Auditor-General of Kenya. Ms. Gathungu was sworn into Office on 17 July 2020, and will serve for a non-renewable term of eight years, as per the Kenyan Constitution. She succeeds Mr. Edward Ouko who left office in August 2019, after the expiry of his eight-year term.

Until her appointment Ms. Gathungu served as the Director of Quality Assurance at the SAI. Prior to joining the SAI, she worked as the Chief Internal Auditor at Kenyatta National Hospital, the biggest referral Hospital in East and Central Africa.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, specialising in Strategic Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce – Accounting, both from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Business Administration, specialising in Strategic Management.

Ms. Gathungu is a certified member and trainer with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and is also a member 0f the Association of Women Accountants in Kenya (AWAK), where she mentors young female accountants.  She is also a member of the Kenya Leadership and Integrity Forum.

Ms. Gathungu is a facilitator and experienced resource person in the focus areas of audit processes, risk management and governance, public finance management, communications, ethics and integrity. She has handled various high-level assignments for AFROSAI-E and the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI)
