AFROSAI-E empowers supreme audit institutions across English-speaking Africa to fight corruption, strengthen governance, and improve the lives of 862 million citizens.
Supreme Audit Institutions are constitutionally mandated to hold governments accountable. In the AFROSAI E region, 26 SAIs serve a combined 862 million citizens and a GDP of 1.45 trillion dollars.

Funds meant for schools, hospitals, and roads vanish into corruption and illicit financial flows. The cost isn’t just economic—it’s human.
SAIs: Guardians of Accountability
SAIs are constitutionally mandated to ensure public funds are used responsibly. Our 26 member SAIs are mandated to conduct over 36,000 audits annually—yet only 21,000 - less than 60% are completed.
The reason? A severe lack of capacity.

AFROSAI-E provides regional support that’s agile, trusted, and targeted. We build long-term capacity, from foundational audits to addressing illicit financial flows and extractive industry risks.

We believe that strong audits begin with strong institutions.
That's why our work focuses on enabling our member SAIs to be:
- Well-functioning institutions with strategic leadership, sustainable resources, independent mandates, and capable people; and
- Producers of high-quality, relevant audits that respond to national priorities and public concerns.
We offer targeted support through:
- Strategic planning, performance monitoring, and institutional development
- Training and mentoring on financial, compliance, and performance audits
- Digital tools and systems to improve audit efficiency and transparency
- Peer-to-peer learning and regional cooperation
- Support to audit emerging issues like extractive industries, climate finance, and illicit financial flows.
Every intervention is designed not just to fix a gap, but to foster long-term change.
