On 8 February 2017, AFROSAI-E CEO Mr Wessel Pretorius and the Inspector General of the Global Fund, Mr Mouhamadou Diagne, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the purpose of coordinating information exchanges concerning oversight activities.
The Office of the Inspector General safeguards the assets, investments, reputation and sustainability of the Global Fund by ensuring that it takes the right action to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Through audits, investigations and consultancy work, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) promotes good practice, reduces risk and reports on abuse. The Global Fund currently has footprint in seven AFROSAI-E member countries as a significant donor.
AFROSAI-E strives to support its member-SAIs to drive audit innovation for increased value and benefits to the citizens of Africa. The cooperation between AFROSAI-E and the OIG is aimed at improving the effectiveness of the oversight and assurance over Global Fund financed activities implemented by national governments. In addition, the development of a stronger relationships between the OIG and member-SAIs will facilitate joint work on specific engagements, as needed, and ongoing exchange of information and insights on matters relevant to the respective parties’ mandates.
