The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has supported our organisation for 30 years. This included support to the initial structure, the Southern African Development Community Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (SADCOSAI) from 1991 to 2003, and then to AFROSAI-E from 2004-2021.

Sida recently concluded an evaluation, implemented by an independent reviewer, to assess what difference its support has made to AFROSAI-E.

It is gratifying to note that the report shows an agreement among all those consulted, that the level of support and capacity development provided by AFROSAI-E has enhanced the audit capacity of SAIs in the region and that the quality of audits has increased. There is also evidence that communication with PACs and other external stakeholders is leading to an increase in the follow-up of audit recommendations. And while the independence of SAIs remains an issue, the evaluation concluded that there can be no doubt that AFROSAI-E has contributed to independence through assistance to revise legislation.
