The AFROSAI-E Chief Executive Officer, Mesie Nkau, is in Sierra Leone to support the Audit Service in strengthening collaboration with stakeholders on enhancing accountability and good governance. The effort is to ensure that ASSL remains relevant to accountability systems by serving as a credible voice through its audits.

The CEO, who is accompanied by the Programme Manager, Joseph M. Mumbire, is having meetings with the following institutions:

  • Accountability Bodies: The Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Chief Justice, Accountant-General’s Department, Speaker of Parliament,
  • National Donor: World Bank Country office, European Union, African Development Bank.
  • Internal stakeholders: The Board and Management.

The discussions centred on how these institutions can actively contribute to protecting the SAI’s independence, ensuring that audit recommendations are implemented, resulting in significant improvements in governance, accountability, and service delivery. The CEO also emphasised the importance of donors integrating capacity building and institutional strengthening for the Audit Service, prioritising long-term institutional development over quick fixes.
