AFROSAI-E is facilitating a Digitalisation Benchmarking and Review Workshop in Kampala, Uganda, from 21 to 24 September 2026. The workshop brings together Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to share experiences, benchmark digitalisation practices and strengthen the regional approach to digital transformation.
The workshop aims to draw lessons from the digitalisation journeys of peer SAIs to inform the development of strategic digitalisation roadmaps and actionable implementation plans. It also provides an opportunity to review and update the AFROSAI-E regional digitalisation programme, ensuring that it remains responsive to the evolving needs of member institutions.
Key areas of focus include data-driven auditing, information systems auditing, digital governance, information security, change management and digital infrastructure. Participants will explore strategies, tools and implementation approaches adopted by peer SAIs, including those certified against the ISO 27001 information security standard.
Through structured experience sharing and benchmarking, the workshop will identify good practices, assess existing digital capabilities and highlight opportunities for improvement. Participants will also review the implementation of data-led audit pilots, examine digitalisation infrastructure needs and provide inputs to strengthen AFROSAI-E’s regional digitalisation plans.
Opening the workshop, Uganda’s Auditor General, Mr Edward Akol, emphasised that digital transformation extends beyond the adoption of technology:
“Digital transformation is not simply about acquiring technology. Successful digital transformation requires a clear institutional strategy. It requires appropriate governance, investment in people, sound and well-designed processes, effective change management, reliable data, strong information security, interoperable systems and sustainable financing.”
The workshop reinforces the importance of a strategic, collaborative and sustainable approach to digital transformation, enabling SAIs to strengthen their institutional capabilities and harness technology to enhance audit quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
