Sharm El-Sheikh, 31 October 2025 — In a proud moment for the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), the organisation has been awarded the Kimi Makwetu Award by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). This global recognition was presented during the XXV INTOSAI Congress (INCOSAI), celebrating AFROSAI-E’s exceptional contributions to capacity building in public sector auditing.
Named after the late Kimi Makwetu, former Auditor General of South Africa and Chair of INTOSAI’s Capacity Building Committee (2013–2020), the award honours institutions that demonstrate outstanding commitment to strengthening the skills, systems, and sustainability of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) worldwide.
“This award is a tribute to the collective efforts of our member SAIs, partners, and dedicated team,” said Meisie Nkau, CEO of AFROSAI-E. “We are deeply honoured to receive this recognition in the name of Kimi Makwetu, whose legacy continues to inspire our work in advancing good governance and accountability across the continent.”
AFROSAI-E has long been a driving force behind innovative approaches to institutional development, peer learning, and regional collaboration. Through strategic initiatives, training programmes, and technical support, the organisation has significantly elevated audit quality and public sector oversight across its member countries.
Receiving the award at the triennial INTOSAI Congress is a powerful affirmation of AFROSAI-E’s enduring impact and leadership in the global auditing community.
