AFROSAI-E recently welcomed Zimbabwe’s newly appointed Auditor General, Mrs Vimbai Chikwenhere, through a high-level engagement designed to strengthen regional collaboration and support her transition into this important leadership role.
The engagement provided an opportunity to introduce the Auditor General to AFROSAI-E’s regional support framework, while reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to empowering Supreme
Audit Institutions (SAIs) to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance across the region.
Led by AFROSAI-E experts, the discussions covered key areas including the INTOSAI framework, the mandate and independence of SAIs, strategic leadership and management, and how technical partners can effectively align capacity-building support with the Office of the Auditor General’s strategic priorities. The programme also included valuable engagements with Deputy Auditors General and Directors, creating a platform for sharing experiences, discussing institutional priorities, and exploring opportunities for organisational growth and reform.
Speaking at the conclusion of the engagement, AFROSAI-E Chief Executive Officer, Meisie Nkau, welcomed the Auditor General into the regional community of SAI leaders, emphasising that strong leadership is fundamental to building credible, resilient, and impactful audit institutions.
“We are delighted to welcome Zimbabwe’s new Auditor General into the AFROSAI-E family. Our role extends beyond technical support—we are committed to partnering with SAI leaders as they strengthen their institutions, uphold independence, and champion accountability for the benefit of citizens across the region.”
