The IT Audit Champions Programme continues to advance the capacity of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in auditing critical information systems. This initiative equips SAIs to support financial, compliance, and performance audits effectively by enhancing their Information Systems (IS) Audit functions. Targeting SAIs with established IS Audit sections, the programme builds practical skills to address the increasing reliance on IT in the public sector.
Since the launch of the current programme in February 2023, we have successfully delivered multiple modules. Modules 1 and 2 took place in Rwanda and South Africa, respectively, followed by Module 3, which covered Basic Audits of MS SQL Databases and Active Directory. The final session, Module 4, held from 2–6 December, focused on the Basic Audits of Networks and Firewalls, enabling participants to identify potential vulnerabilities in IT infrastructure.

Advancing Expertise: The IS Audit Experts Programme
To complement the Champions Programme, AFROSAI-E is delivering the IS Audit Experts Programme, aimed at experienced IS auditors. This advanced programme addresses the growing demand for enhanced cyber security in the public sector by equipping auditors with expertise in security testing and technical cyber security measures.
The most recent workshop under this programme took place from 25–29 November 2024 at the AFROSAI-E Training Centre in Pretoria, South Africa. Participants included previous IT Audit Champions and other IS auditors with equivalent experience. The sessions provided an opportunity to delve deeper into advanced cybersecurity topics and foster collaboration among seasoned professionals.
Through these programmes, AFROSAI-E reaffirms its commitment to strengthening IS audit functions across the region, ensuring that SAIs remain well-equipped to address the challenges of an increasingly digital world.
