From 11 to 14 November 2025, the National Audit Office (NAO) of Mauritius welcomed a delegation from the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), together with representatives from AFROSAI-E. The visit formed part of ongoing support to the NAO under a DIRCO-funded capacity development initiative.
During the engagement, High Commissioner Dr Hlamalani Nelly Manzini, South Africa’s representative to Mauritius, paid an official visit to the NAO. Her discussions centred on strengthening bilateral relations and deepening economic cooperation between South Africa and Mauritius—an important and growing partnership reflected in strong export activity and continued South African investment in the country.
As part of the mission, AFROSAI-E provided targeted technical support to the NAO team. The focus of the training was on translating the NAO’s Strategic Objectives into practical processes, measurable targets, and actionable implementation steps. This work forms a key component of the broader effort to help the SAI operationalise its strategy and achieve its organisational goals.
The visit also created a valuable platform for the NAO to share its operational realities with DIRCO firsthand—highlighting challenges, exploring solutions, and strengthening understanding of the environment in which SAIs operate.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to enhancing public sector auditing capability and supporting Mauritius in its pursuit of improved accountability and governance.
